Upbeat Music Video: Pterosaurs in California (on Youtube)

By the investigative journalist Jonathan Whitcomb

A few days ago (early in May of 2019), I uploaded a video to the Youtube channel Protect Animal Life. Although the DERALP* site gives forty-one references to pterosaur sightings in California, the Youtube video “Giant Pterodactyl in California” has only seven of those reports.

* DERALP = Declaration on Eyewitness Reports of Apparent Living Pterosaurs, revised February 1, 2019

Here are the locations, in the video, for the seven sightings in CA:

  • Altadena (about 1968)
  • Anaheim (2018)
  • Central California (2007 – sighting by Scott Norman)
  • Fairfield (wingspan estimate = about 30 feet)
  • Irvine (2007)
  • Ramona (2004)
  • San Diego (2011)

Video “Giant Pterodactyl in California”

A lively music keeps this production moving, yet its in the nature of film and video to provide less information than a book or blog post, especially on Youtube, where videos are often only 3-10 minutes long.

Here’s another video on the channel Protect Animal Life:

“Pterodactyl” Sightings in California

. . . when reports of big featherless flying creatures in California are taken in context with similar reports from many other areas, the shock is not quite as great, although it still is a shock to learn about those animals.

Nonfiction book for young readers

This cryptozoology book, for readers from eight to fourteen years old is titled The Girl who saw a Flying Dinosaur. I make it clear, on the back cover and inside the book, that this is about living pterosaurs, which are not literally dinosaurs.

Reports of living pterosaurs in the USA

Called by some Americans “flying dinosaurs,” pterosaurs, in modern times, appear to be at least somewhat rare, for they are rarely reported by eyewitnesses.
